Year 9 at Sherbrooke Community School
Challenge, Choice and Real-World Learning
Year 9 is a time of change, discovery, and growth — and at Sherbrooke Community School, we design this year to reflect that.
We understand that students in Year 9 are ready for new challenges, more choice, and a stronger sense of independence. Our program is designed to empower students to take greater ownership of their learning, explore their interests, and connect more deeply with the world around them.
📘 A Flexible and Engaging Curriculum
Year 9 students continue to build core skills while enjoying a broader range of learning opportunities that are meaningful and hands-on. Subjects include:
-
English
-
Mathematics
-
Science
-
Humanities
-
Health and PE
-
The Arts and Design Technologies
-
Elective subjects based on student interest
-
Project-based and inquiry learning
Our small class sizes and personalised approach mean students get the support they need — whether they’re thriving, need a challenge, or benefit from extra guidance.
🌏 Real-World Connections
Year 9 is a key time to connect school with the world beyond the classroom. Students participate in:
-
Community-based learning projects
-
Outdoor education and sustainability experiences
-
School and local leadership opportunities
-
Excursions and events that build perspective and independence
These experiences help build confidence, initiative and a sense of purpose — skills that go beyond textbooks and prepare students for their futures.
💬 Personal Development and Wellbeing
Year 9 can be a turning point for many young people — and we’re there to support them through it. Our wellbeing program focuses on:
-
Social and emotional learning
-
Respectful relationships
-
Identity, self-awareness and resilience
-
Restorative practices and supportive communication
We aim to create a space where students feel safe to explore who they are, what they care about, and how they can make a difference.
🎯 Looking Ahead
Year 9 is also a stepping stone to senior pathways. We begin helping students explore their interests and think about future options, including VCE, VCE Vocational Major (VM), and VET. With guidance from our teaching and wellbeing teams, students are supported to start shaping a path that’s right for them.
At Sherbrooke, Year 9 is more than just a year level — it’s a chance to explore, connect, and grow. We walk alongside our students as they take their next big steps with confidence and support.
