Senior Pathways at Sherbrooke Community School

VCE, VET & VM – Supporting Every Student’s Journey

At Sherbrooke Community School, we know that every student’s learning journey is unique. That’s why we offer a range of senior pathways designed to support different interests, goals, and styles of learning — whether students are heading to university, into the workforce, or exploring their passions.

Our approach is flexible, supportive, and student-focused. We work closely with each young person to help them choose the path that’s right for them.

🎓 VCE – Victorian Certificate of Education

The VCE is a two-year senior secondary certificate that is widely recognised by universities, TAFEs, and employers. It suits students who enjoy academic study and may be planning to go on to tertiary education.

At Sherbrooke, VCE students can:

• Study a variety of academic subjects

• Complete Units 1–4 over two years (Year 11 and 12)

• Access tailored support from experienced teachers

• Begin some VCE subjects early in Year 10 if appropriate

VCE is a flexible program that can include VET units and personal interest areas, helping students build both academic and practical skills.

🛠️ VET – Vocational Education and Training

VET programs allow students to gain nationally recognised qualifications while still at school. These hands-on courses are delivered through TAFE and other registered training organisations.

VET is perfect for students who want to:

• Learn practical, job-ready skills

• Explore a specific industry (e.g. hospitality, building, animal care, creative arts, IT, automotive, etc.)

• Work towards a trade or traineeship

• Combine vocational learning with their VCE or VM program

Students typically attend VET one day per week, and some VET programs offer credits towards both VCE and VM.

🔧 VCE Vocational Major (VM)

The VCE Vocational Major is a hands-on, applied learning program within the VCE. It is ideal for students who thrive in practical learning environments and are interested in moving into TAFE, apprenticeships, employment, or further training.

VM students at Sherbrooke:

• Study core subjects such as Literacy, Numeracy, Work-Related Skills and Personal Development

• Combine classroom learning with real-world experiences

• Participate in Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)

• Can include VET subjects as part of their program

The VM stream values practical skills, problem-solving, teamwork and real-world experience — preparing students to succeed in whatever path they choose next.

• Course counselling and careers support

• Individual learning plans

• Work experience and industry connections
